Screen Composer / Guzheng Performer

Siyi Chen composer is an indie Chinese screen composer and guzheng performer based in New York. She is known for her continuous exploration of the intersection between music technology and cross-cultural music communication.

Siyi's dedication extends to over 70 compositions for films, games, interactive media, and commercial music.

Her music scores have been recognized at prestigious events such as the Cannes, Sundance, Game for Change, Telly Awards, Cleveland International Film Festival, and IDFA. Sponsored and supported by Swiss Art Council, New York Foundation of the Arts, etc.

In addition to her creative work, Siyi actively contributes to the arts community as a panelist for the 2024 NYFA Queens Arts Fund and the 2025 Brooklyn Arts Council, as well as serving as a 2024 Tigertail Asian Film Festival judge. She has also been recognized as a Hubei Province Literary Leader and is currently a guest professor at Yangtze University in China.

Additional to her contribution to the media world, she is dedicated to exploring the possibilities of interaction between tradition and technology, as well as fostering community engagements. Siyi was selected to the OneBeat Virtual Residency, where she introduced the traditional Chinese instrument guzheng and Chinese music elements to the residency, exploring new creative possibilities with 35 musicians from around the world.

Siyi studied under the tutelage of film orchestrator Sonny Kompanek (Three Kings, True Grit, Twilight: Breaking Dawn) and Grammy-nominated producer Tony Dofat. With years of hands-on experience across film, games, and interactive media, she has grown into a well-rounded composer and Guzheng performer recognized for her thoughtful approach and ability to bridge different musical cultures in the media scoring community.
